Levon Brooks: Who He Is in Crystal Lake
Every horror town needs a cop who almost gets believed in time. Crystal Lake's is Chief Levon Brooks — and making him new, in a franchise 46 years old, is one of the show's sharpest choices.
Who Is Levon Brooks?
Levon is Crystal Lake's police chief in 1972: a widower who hasn't rebuilt his life, a brother still keeping an eye on his journalist sister, and the one man in town who keeps almost stumbling onto the truth — the scissor-blades in the bear-gnawed remains, the phony rental company, the conglomerate behind it. The show gives him a specific history: a Black officer who took the blame for police misconduct during Newark's riots and started over in a small town that doesn't entirely respect his badge. When he orders the armed bear hunt to stand down, the town simply ignores him — and Enos dies.
William Catlett's Role
Catlett (Black Lightning, A Black Lady Sketch Show, The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey) plays Levon as the season's moral center and its slow-motion tragedy: he gets close to Pamela, lets himself believe in the life she's offering, and spends the back half of the season learning exactly who — and what — he let into town. In the finale's police-station shootout he takes a bullet protecting her; ending guides place him among the survivors.
Levon's Family: Briana Brooks
His younger sister Briana (Devin Kessler) is a journalist, and the season's conspiracy engine: she follows the fake rental car to the conglomerate Bellflower, gets warned off by a lawyer who knows too much, and receives a mysterious envelope that could expose everything. Whatever season 2 looks like, the Brooks siblings are the thread that keeps Argonaut alive as a story.
Levon and Dorf
His partner Deputy Dorfman ("Dorf," Cameron Scoggins) is the show's sad-funny study in small-town ambition — leaking to look big, freezing out of the case for it, finding Willow's body while drunk. The finale gives him one legitimately great moment in the shootout, which is more than most of the town's men get.
Why an Original Character?
The 1980 film's town is a blur of gas-station extras; its sheriff exists to not believe Alice. Giving 1972 a fleshed-out chief — one who believes Pamela, loves her, and still can't save anyone — does two things at once: it makes the town real enough to lose, and it makes Pamela's final turn ("These woods are ours now") a betrayal of someone the audience knows, not a plot beat.
